Il testo analizza i processi cognitivi che regolano la comprensione del testo, intesa come costruzione progressiva di una rappresentazione mentale coerenteLa comprensione nasce dall’interazione tra informazioni esplicite del testo e conoscenze pregresse del lettore, con particolare rilievo per lessico, inferenze e monitoraggio.Vengono esaminate competenze come skimming e scanning, gestione dei connettivi, co-referenzialità, sensibilità al genere testuale e controllo della coerenza interpretativa.Il contributo approfondisce inoltre il ruolo degli indizi contestuali, distinguendo tra variabili esterne al soggetto e variabili mediatrici che orientano l’uso degli indizi.Tra queste rientrano frequenza, mutevolezza dei contesti, rilevanza, familiarità, concretezza e recupero delle conoscenze pregresse.Infine, il testo descrive le variabili interne al lettore: codificazione selettiva, combinazione selettiva e confronto selettivo.Tali processi consentono di selezionare, integrare e disambiguare le informazioni testuali, come mostrato dall’esempio della parola “radice”.La comprensione emerge così come un’attività dinamica, flessibile e modulare, fondata sull’integrazione tra testo, memoria, linguaggio e rappresentazione mentale.

The text examines the cognitive processes involved in reading comprehension, understood as the gradual construction of a coherent mental representation of a text.Comprehension depends on the interaction between explicit textual information and the reader’s prior knowledge, especially lexical knowledge, inference-making, and monitoring.The paper discusses skills such as skimming and scanning, the interpretation of connectives, co-reference, sensitivity to text type, and the evaluation of coherence.It also explores the role of contextual clues, distinguishing between variables external to the reader and mediating variables that affect how such clues are used.These include word frequency, contextual variation, relevance, familiarity, concreteness, and the retrieval of prior knowledge.The final section focuses on internal cognitive variables: selective encoding, selective combination, and selective comparison.These processes allow readers to select, integrate, and disambiguate textual information, as illustrated by the example of the word “root”.Overall, comprehension is presented as a dynamic, flexible, and modular activity that integrates text, memory, language, and mental representation.
