This collection of essays is based on the idea that text analysis may provide translators with an awareness of meaning-making processes that is indispensable to convey meaning in translation and that may be applied to a number of linguistic combinations, cultural domains and translation processes. Hence, it seems crucial to reflect on how analysis may be conducted, and how it may present different features and advantages depending on the selected communicative form and on the specific context of application.
The main aim of this volume is to explore the potential offered by text analysis in a variety of methodological approaches to translation. The emphasis on analysis foregrounds methods that are deeply rooted in linguistics, such as stylistics, discourse analysis, terminology, corpus studies and sociolinguistics, as well as approaches of a more cultural and literary nature with a strong focus on text and its functions.
