In the Space of Possibilities: Shared Reading Practices in the Publishing Field. The article employs Bourdieu’s field theory to analyse book clubs in Italy within the publishing field. The paper draws on the qualitative phase of S.T.O.R.I.E., the first national research of book clubs in Italy, to examine how book clubs construct and mobilise different selection strategies that oscillate between the aspiration to autonomy and the reproduction of dominant canons. Situated at the intersection of production and consumption, book clubs act as agents of cultural intermediation. From a peripheral position within the field, they contribute to shaping the public meaning of literary works and the conditions of their local visibility and circulation
