In the contemporary context, smart cities are configured as an ever-evolving urban paradigm or, rather, as complex and evolving systems in which digital technologies, data analysis, and connected infrastructures are integrated to optimize the delivery of public services, reduce operational costs, and improve the quality of urban life. The smart approach, therefore, is not static: it adapts to continuous technological changes and emerging urban challenges, such as demographic growth, environmental sustainability, generational exchange, and new forms of governance. Numerous examples globally demonstrate that the adoption of smart city initiatives is still growing, confirming that the phenomenon has not exhausted its impact and represents one of the main directions of development of contemporary urban policies, supported by public and private investments and increasing academic and institutional attention. For this reason, it must be investigated in light of the evoked promise of sustainability and intergenerational justice.Downloads
