L’Anticristo e il Cattolicesimo a partire dalla riflessione Nietzscheana sul buon Europeo

Abstract

This essay wants to support the idea that the Nietzschean concept of good European is incompatible with Romanticism and, at the same time, that the mature phase of Nietzsche's thought, in particular the Antichrist, is actually a return to romanticism of the initial phase after the illuminist period of negation of the romantic ethos. The essay also wants to support the idea of a parallel between good European/Enlightenment, on the one hand, and bad European/Romanticism, on the other one. Like Twilight of Idols is an anti-Wagnerian text modeled on the Twilight of Gods by Wagner, the Antichrist can be understood as an antiluteran text modeled on Luther's Antichrist. Both Luther and Nietzsche see in the papacy first of all the expression of an anti-Christian theology and, only as a consequence, a truly anti-Christian political force. The difference between the Antichrist of Luther and the Nietzschean one, however, consists in the fact that for the Christian Luther the anti-Christianity of the papacy becomes a reason for condemnation, while for the anti-Christian Nietzsche the anti-Christianity of the papacy instead represents merit.
