The aim of these pages is to show how Kurt Blumenfeld’s influence determined the way in which politics began to take on meaning in Hannah Arendt’s life and thinking, and how she later became involved in politics herself . I will look for this influence in the letters that Arendt and Blumenfeld exchanged from 1933 until 1963. I will then analyze three points that I consider fundamental in defining the relationship between the two thinkers and the development of their reflections: the relationship between Jewish and German culture, the fate of European Jewry, and Zionism.Downloads
