Abstract

Through sources mainly drawn from authors of II and III centuries A.D., among which a significant number attributed to Gaius, the essay will investigate the claims relating to negotiating and processual capacity of the filiae familiarum during the Antoninian and Severan Age. By analysing the filiae familiarum cases, two different kinds of procedural capacity will be shown: the active and the passive one. Moreover, some examples will focus on other interesting issues about filiae familiarum. Moreover, this essay will focus on their freedom of negotiating, their role in the market, and on the limits and boundaries they would have faced if they had run a business activity.
