Basketry, Graeco-Roman Egypt, objects in plant fiber
Abstract
The Graeco-Roman site of Soknopaiou Nesos/Dime es-Seba, located in the desert on the north of Lake Qarun, in the Fayyum (Egypt), has returned a large quantity of items made of plant fiber. This paper is a preliminary overview of the main categories of yet unpublished objects in plant fiber, such as baskets and footwear, found mainly in the temple area by the Soknopaiou Nesos Project directed by M. Capasso and P. Davoli of the University of Salento (Lecce) between 2003 and 2021.
