Callimachus, Fr. 503 Pf., Posidippus and the Mimallones The article deals with the uncommon word Mimallones, the Macedonian Maenads, and with a story about the Argead king Argaios, treated probably in Callimachus' Aitia, with reference to the cult of Dionysos Pseudanor. An interesting evidence of Macedonian Dionysiac cult has been found in P. Mil. Vogl. VIII 309. Greek and Latin poetical quotations of the term Mimallones are mentioned.Downloads
