The article provides new insights on the relationship between two intellectuals of the late medieval Rome, Giovanni Cavallini dei Cerroni and Giovanni Colonna di Gallicano, and discusses a hypothetical exploration of Giovanni Colonna in the monastery of Monte Cassino, carried out with the aim to find new manuscripts of ancient Latin authors.
