Abstract

Apulian folklore festivals can be described as a complex phenomenon that combines social relationships, collective compassion, artistic performances, and business activities. Therefore, this paper aims to analyse the most significant aspects of Apulian folklore festivals. In the first part of the paper, the most distinctive features of such festivals will be explored, including brass band performances, fireworks, and illumination. In the second part of the paper, the rituals held during Lent, and the Holy Week in particular, will be investigated. Folklore festivals have transformed into marketing devices to promote local areas. In communication materials, the exotic and traditional aspects of festivals are highlighted, with their tourist appeal playing a key role.
