Abstract

This paper is devoted to a personal overview about weak symmetries of partial differential equations. The relationship between weak symmetries and overdetermined systems of partial differential is considered.On the basis of this relationship it is shown how it is possible to use the concept of weak symmetries to unify several ad hoc reduction methods for partial differential equations.
