Vanini's fame was initially generated by his informers who designed around him an aura of judgements and prejudices against his rational investigation aimed towards the infinite spaces of the liberty of philosophizing, sometimes representing him as an unrepentant heretic, sometimes as an unyielding atheist. Thus different images of the character result which are produced by the perception of time and by the dominant philosophies over the centuries. But man's effort to get out of a constrained space by the dogmatic gear, is perhaps a key to the reading more intimately related to his real life as a religious, philosopher and theologian, which can shed a light on the motive that pushed him to land towards those infinite spaces in an endeavour to overcome the obtuseness of its century.

La fama di Vanini è stata prodotta inizialmente dai suoi delatori, i quali hanno creato intorno a lui un'aura di giudizi e pregiudizi contro la sua indagine razionale diretta verso gli spazi infiniti della libertà del filosofare, disegnandolo ora come eretico impenitente, ora come ateo ostinato. Risultano così immagini difformi del personaggio prodotte dal sentire del tempo e dalle filosofie dominanti nel corso dei secoli. Ma lo sforzo dell'uomo di uscire da uno spazio costretto dell'ingranaggio dogmatico, è una chiave di lettura forse più aderente alla sua realtà di religioso, di filosofo e di teologo, che può chiarire il movente che lo ha spinto ad approdare verso quegli infiniti spazi nel tentativo di superare l'ottusità del suo secolo.
