The essay aims to show in parallel the stories of Pietro Perugino and Leonardo: both, in their youth, co-workers of Andrea del Verrocchio, they meet in Florence in 1501. There, Pietro is the most successful and required painter, but the works done by Leonardo during his second Florentine stay open the high renaissance style, and give Perugino to an era that ends suddenly and from which the latter has not the strength to free himself. Exactly as it was described by Vasari.

Scopo del presente saggio è mostrare in parallelo le vicende di Pietro Perugino e Leonardo, entrambi in gioventù collaboratori di Andrea del Verrocchio, si ritrovano a Firenze nel 1501, dove Pietro è ormai il pittore più richiesto. Le opere esibite da Leonardo durante il secondo soggiorno fiorentino inaugurano la "maniera moderna" e consegnano Perugino a un'epoca che si chiude improvvisamente e da cui quest'ultimo non ha la forza di affrancarsi: esattamente come descritto da Vasari.
