This paper provides an essay on both a geographic and linguistic description of the dispersion of family names in the Lecce province (Southern Italy). Only the first ten names which are most widespread in the province are accounted for. After a short discussion about the names' origins given by some authoritative sources, a selection of maps is proposed in order to better describe the geographical distribution of the families with those names.

Il saggio propone una rassegna di dati linguistici e descrive la dispersione geografica dei primi dieci cognomi per frequenza della provincia di Lecce. Dopo una breve disamina dei dati offerti dalle principali fonti riguardo ai cognomi considerati, il contributo si sofferma sulle possibilità ricostruttive offerte dall'analisi della distribuzione geografica in merito alle dinamiche sociali e storiche.
