The article is a brief discussion of some of the major approaches to the American revolution. Classical liberal interpretations, founded on the natural rights of men, faced different kind of analysis, by the progressive school and by republicanism. According to the classical liberal interpretation the radicalization of the philosophy of John Locke transformed liberty and property in a powerful instrument of political struggle.
