Abstract

Newspapers and magazines accompanied the history of humanity long before the “Short Cen-tury”. The 20th century produced three great revolutions in the field of communication: radio, television and internet. Politics could not ignore the potential of this media to gain the consensus risen from the enlargement of universal suffrage. It stopped being an obscure activity becoming an elite profession that decided for millions of people. This work is a historical survey on the mechanisms that, in the specific case of the US, led to the political access to the media and the way in which some Presidents have used it to reach the public.
