Abstract

The aim of this article is to assess the relative efficiency of Spanish Travel Agencies. The analysis uses the non-parametric technique “Data Envelopment Analysis” (DEA) to estimate the technical efficiency and the scale on which the travel agencies operate. The article also provides possible action lines that the agencies might carry out to improve efficiency. Finally, using a Tobit regression model, there is an analysis of the influence that the company's own variables and the integration strategy adopted have on efficiency. The empirical application carried out on a sample of 34 Spanish travel agencies shows low indexes of technical and scale inefficiency, as well as a slight influence of the integration strategy variable on efficiency.
